KYIV. June 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) - The Ukrainian Yuzhnoye Design Bureau has won an international tender for the design, production and launching of Egypt's first remote earth probing satellite, the information center of the Yuzhnoye Design Bureau told Interfax on Monday.
According to the tender offers, the satellite, which will weigh up to 100 kg, will be made with the help of micro-technologies. The space vehicle will carry a multi-spectrum scanner with high spatial resolution and communications facilities.
The satellite will operate on a solar-synchronic orbit at an altitude of 668 km. It is expected to be launched into orbit with the help of a Dnepr-1 launch vehicle.
The conditions of the tender also envision the creation and deployment of a land-based satellite control station and modernization of the station to receive information obtained by remote probing. Ukrainian specialists will train Egyptian personnel and prepare local specialists to develop satellites of this class.
