En route to Jupiter, NASA's Galileo examined asteroid Ida in August 1993, finding a second object, Dactyl - the first confirmed satellite or moon of an asteroid. The much smaller moon is visible to the right of Ida. Such flotsam around a larger body may be troublesome to future spacecraft sent to deflect menacing asteroids. Click to enlarge.
